Can the Luoyang tree peony be raised in pots?If so,what should bedone in order to make it grow and bloom?

   Yes,they can be raisedin pots.It requires knowledge and very carefulcultivation.The plants have to be the lowgrowing,upright,strong,free blooming varietieswith many feeding roots.Hu hong,Da zongzi,Zhao feng,Lan tian yu,Bai yu,Zhu shalei,Shi ba hao and Hei hua kui are the varietiesgood for pot planting.

   The potting soil mustbe loamy and rich.Use clay pots at least 10inchesin diameter with 10inches depth.Transplantit to larger pots as the plant grows.Apot with the same diameter from top to bottomis a better choice.

   The fall is the best timefor potting the tree peonies.After diggingup a plant leave it out for a day or twoto let it become limp for easy handling.Removedamaged branches and some of the brancheswhich are very closely grown together.Cut shortthe very long roots to fit the depth of thepot.Soak the pot in water thoroughly.Putthe plant in and fill the pot with soil notall the way up to the brim,firm the soil andwater it well.Do not over water,just keepit moist,not soggy.Use organic fertilizerswith water twice a month during its growingseason.

   Once a week right beforeblooming and during its blooming period.Afterwardsresume the once or twice monthly routine.

   In places where the winteris severe the pot can be buried in the groundwith the plant exposed outside,then coverit or leave it according to the local climaticcondition.
